Director of Business Development

Talentworks is pleased to partner with an established and growing engineering company that provides a broad suite of in house, turn-key services to the utility power sector. Their long established and highly successful operating companies offer full utility services nationwide: Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Manufacturing, and Technical Services.

In this newly created role as Director of Business Development, you will be responsible for working with the Business Development and Operations teams to develop and execute corporate growth objectives. You are entrepreneurial and self-motivated with the ability to use your existing senior level contacts to build and maintain relationships, develop detailed market development and account management plans, and represent the brand at various industry events. In addition, you are a strategic critical thinker with a proven successful record in exceeding business objectives.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and execute strategies including the creation and management of business development plans and forecasts
• Build and maintain relationships with potential and existing customers by providing information about current projects and industry issues while promoting the companies
• Obtain and maintain current relevant knowledge on upcoming projects
• Monitor customer tender pages and notify team of new tendering opportunities
• Research current industry issues, seeking out relevant information
• Use knowledge of the market and competitors to identify and develop the company’s unique selling propositions and differentiators
• Work with Business Development Team to keep Corporate Contracts Pipeline current
• Plan, attend, exhibit, and/or sponsor industry events relevant to the organization’s major business sectors
• Assist with brand management
• Support preparation of proposal narratives – current statistics, consistent messaging, relevant photography, references to current versions of supporting documents
• Support cost estimating efforts as necessary
• Attend customer meetings and bidder meetings as necessary
• Mentor and lead sales representatives, leveraging his/her individual strengths

What we need from you:

• Post-secondary degree, diploma or equivalent in a related discipline
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior business development related role
• Strong knowledge of the electrical utility and high-voltage contracting industries required
• Established network with key leaders/influencers in high-voltage and electrical utilities industries
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including strong interpersonal skills in both French and English
• Adept at cultivating relationships within the construction industry, strengthening relationships with current and former clients, and identifying areas of new opportunity
• Demonstrated experience directly leading sales teams, with an impeccable ability to impact and influence through a collaborative approach
• Must be a self-starter, confident in your abilities, self-motivated and able to work efficiently with little supervision
• Must be willing to travel throughout Ontario as needed
