House Manager
Talentworks is pleased to be partnered with a long time, non-for-profit organization on their search for a House Manager. Reporting into the Director of Homelessness, the House Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation of the facility. They’re also responsible for supervising the frontline workers in their facility in the provision of service to guests. The House Manager will have an exceptional understanding of the policies and procedures of Shelter Nova Scotia in order to model behavior that is in line with the mission, vision and values of the organization.
What you’ll do:
- Scan the horizon and make recommendations for changes to Shelter Nova Scotia and facility specific policies and procedures
- Monitor to ensure guests are provided with effective service, make recommendations for changes to new service delivery/ programs
- Demonstrate commitment to ethical behavior that promotes quality guest service and professional interactions with colleagues, guests and community partners
- Ensure the facility specific operating policies and procedures are implemented
- Ensure guest meetings are scheduled and held. This meeting is to be chaired by the HM or delegate
- Provide leadership for the recruitment and selection process; make recommendations for hire
- Ensure employees are well oriented to the position, performance is managed, employees have clear direction and timely and specific feedback and training needs are identified
- Responsible for building a sense of teamwork and cooperation with employees’ and schedule chair team meetings
- Responsible for ensuring scheduling and payroll are completed; approved overtime
- Meet with OHS Representative monthly; ensure minutes are posted and sent to the Home Office; follow up to ensure the action plans from the monthly meeting are implemented; report on individual OHS activities at the monthly meeting sooner as required
- Ensure OHS issues, incidents and complaints that are reported are followed up on or resolved on a timely basis
- Ensure OHS checklist is implemented, issues identified and/ or resolved, and results are reported at the monthly meeting
- Ensure a HIFIS admin is in place
- Ensure the maintenance and repair work is completed to specifications in the contract; sign off to indicate the work was completed and/ or goods received
- Monitor the existing service contracts such as pest control, garbage removal, snow removal, etc. to ensure service levels are being delivered; follow up as required
- Ensure donations are accepted and processed appropriately
- Provide input into the annual budget process
- Monitor, track and report petty cash as per the budget as required
- Complete financial billing reports; submit invoices to the Central Office
- Perform frontline responsibilities as required
- Attend management meetings; assume responsibility for related tasks
- Participate in project work as a member committee
- Attend community meetings as a Shelter Nova Scotia representative
- Liaise with community partners to maintain positive relations
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Social Work, Human Services or equivalent education and experience
- 3 -5 years’ experience working in a supervisory role in residential facilities, community corrections or related experience
- Certifications in the following or able to obtain: Enhanced Reliability Security Screening, Standard First Air/ CPR Level “C”, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), WHMIS
- Ability to successfully pass the Child Abuse Registry and/ or Government of Canada Personnel Screening
- Proficiency in MS Office Suites
- Experience with interviewing, counseling and intervention techniques
- Knowledge of Correctional Service Canada, NS Department of Community Services and other government and community resources is considered an asset
- Experience with Offender Management System is considered an asset
